A warm reception also followed Ben Muldrow’s presentation on branding for the community, its Main Street organization, Leake Development Association and many of its other development groups.
Noting the links between Main Street Carthage, the Leake
County Chamber of Commerce and the LDA, he urged and then offered similarly themed logos and promotional materials for each, plus festivals and more.
Branding, Muldrow said, “is an emotional bank account, an overall system for how to communicate the overall identity of the City of Carthage.”
The game plan, he said, was to market the town’s identity in a way that would “capture all that’s positive” about the town.
“You’re square as a community,” he said, tying the town
square and Leake County’s unique in Mississippi square shape, “but you’re really well-rounded.
“Your people make this a place you want to live.”
The marketing devices, such as logos, would go beyond, he said letterhead and the like, to encompass banner, directional signs, signage in stores, menu boards and tee shirts. Recognizing the brief presentation was nonetheless overwhelming, Morgan advised all
was over time, do-able.
“There are a lot of questions of how do you make it happen,” she offered. “Those are
things that are included in the overall report.”
The first key, she said, was “believing you can do it. We know you can do it. Believe
you can do it.”
